Art Basel Miami Beach 2009 is at hand. The initial report is that it will be more subdued than in the past. While there were as many as 25 satellite fairs at the peak, there are 19 for this year. If the general economy fails to improve in 2010, look for that number to drop.
While the Miami Beach is the epicenter of Art Basel, Miami has two distinct area of importance, the Design District and Wynwood Arts District.
My favorite mixed use facility is Mamushka’s Arts Cafe in the Wynwood Arts District, within walking distance of the midtown area with parking garages and the tent city made up by Art Miami and Red Dot. Several fairs have downsized and moved to available warehouse and commerical building space, such as Photo Miami’s move to a vacant space once occupied by a Circuit City store.
