Art Miami is the largest of the independent art fairs held during Miami Art Week, the first week in December. While Art Basel Miami Beach dominates the news, and Miami Beach, four independent art fairs are grouped together in the mid-town section of the Wynwood Art District. Adjacent to Art Miami are Red Dot, Scope and Art Asia.

This is a visual tour of Art Miami’s 100,000 square foot pavillion, which features 100 international art galleries and prominent art institutions.

While Miami Beach is the epicenter of the art festival, satellite art fairs are taking place on the Miami side of Biscayne Bay.

The Mid-Town Art District, adjacent to Wynwood and the Miami Design District, is the site of four large satellite art fairs: ArtMiami, Red Dot, Scope and Art Asia.

Miami Lyric Opera presents Puccini’s La Boheme at the Colony Theater, 1040 Lincoln Road on Miami Beach on Thursday, July 15 and Saturday July 17, 2010. La Boheme will feature Jacqueline Quirk, a resident member of the Hawaii Opera Company, as Mimi. Mexican tenor Rodolfo Cuevas plays Rodolfo, the principle male character in Puccini’s drama. Diego Baner, one of Argentina’s finest bass baritones reprises his role of Colline, the philosopher, while the artist, Marcello, is performed by Miami resident, and internationally recognized Graham Fandrei. Rounding out the cast is Daniel Snodgrass as Schaunard, the musician, Susana Diaz as Musetta and Ismael Gonzalez in a duel role of Alcindoro and Benoit.

The Wynwood Arts District in Miami is the location of the most extensive collection of legal street art in the world.

Primary Flight, a collection of 30 artists tagging 25 walls, began during Art Basel Miami 2009 in early December.

These pictures include two of the artist working on the final wall- Hollyhood – on 23 December 2009.

Reial Cercle Artistic from Barcelona, Spain is in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District with a temporary exhibit. They arrived for Art Basel Miami 2009 and plan to stay for several months before taking the exhibit to Chicago. While the Miami Beach is the epicenter of Art Basel, Miami has two distinct area of importance, the Design District and Wynwood Arts District.

My favorite mixed use facility is Mamushka’s Arts Cafe in the Wynwood Arts District, within walking distance of the midtown area with parking garages and the tent city made up by Art Miami and Red Dot. Several fairs have downsized and moved to available warehouse and commerical building space, such as Photo Miami’s move to a vacant space once occupied by a Circuit City store.
